Derek is a Raid Pyrenean veteran, having completed it personally many times in both diretions. A passionate cyclist for 30 years, he's taken part in hundreds of time trials, dozens of road races and numerous cyclosportives, including the Ariegeoise and the Quebrantahuesos - and in everything from blistering heat to frozen rain. Derek has cycled thousands of miles in the mountains, met hundreds of fellow cyclists and made many friends. He knows from personal experience how demanding it can be to cycle in this unpredictable environment and the kind of support you need to achieve what you set out to do, safely and enjoyably. He can't resist showing a new group of riders why he loves cycling mountains and watching them get hooked too. Derek himself rides in as many of our events as he can.
Over the last five years Austin has supported hundreds of cyclists as they ride the mountains, making sure they have everything they need to be successful. A keen cyclist himself, and previously the owner of a dedicated cycle lodge with his wife Sally, he can always be relied upon to be practical, sympathetic and helpful; he has the knack of saying the right thing at the right time and everyone appreciates his unflappable common sense, not to mention his wicked sense of humour. Austin will always go the extra mile (literally) to give you a helping hand, and if it's raining cats and dogs, or you're the last one home and you're really fed up, he'll be there to offer encouragement, crack a joke and help you put everything back in perspective.
